Pluckley Church of England Primary School ‘Enjoying, Learning and Achieving Together.’

Year 1/2- Blake Class

WELCOME TO BLAKE CLASS' CLASS PAGE!

We are a happy class of Year One and Two children and this term, we are learning all about THE COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD! This year, our class is named after Sir Quentin Blake, who was born in Sidcup, in Kent. He is a very famous cartoonist, illustrator and children’s author, possibly best known for his amazing illustrations of Roald Dahl’s books.

At Pluckley School, we have a Creative Curriculum, which means we are try and focus all of our learning around our topic.

In Literacy, over the next term we will be learning all about fairy tales, particularly focusing on those from different countries. We will also learn how to write letters and study poems on a theme...which will be 'poetry from other cultures' (tying in nicely with our whole school topic).

In maths this half term, there are lots of exciting things planned to learn new skills as well as building on the skills that we already have to help us learn new things. First of all we will be learning about place value and fractions of numbers, using previous learning such as ordering numbers and addition and subtraction number sentences to help us understand our new learning. We will then move on to other challenges such as 3d shapes, time, multiplication and division.

In addition to this, we will of course be covering all other subjects such as science (in which we are learning about living things and their habitats), PE (where the children will be thinking about how to use their bodies to create different shapes), Art (different styles of art from around the world), History and Geography (map making, and ordering events chronologically), and French (Learning all the common phrases we need to know).

Please keep your eyes peeled for pictures of our learning, which will be updated regularly. You will also find an archive of class newsletters, homework and topic webs below.
