This week we have been using our knowledge of place value and number from the start of the term to develop our addition skills. We have been partitioning numbers using the part whole model to find different ways to make a given number using addition and have been using numberlines to help us add. Year 2 have also been exploring fact families and how we can manipulate the numbers in addition sentences and how we can still get the same answer. In Literacy we have been retelling the story of George Saves The World By Lunchtime. We began by predicting what we think the story is about using only the front cover, developing our inference skills. Next we ordered the events in chronological order, as they happened in the book. Using this we were able to retell the story in our own words, remembering to include and check the basics such as capital letters and full stops in our writing. Towards the end of the week we began looking at persuasive letter writing, how we can tell something is a letter and the purpose of writing a persuasive letter. We will follow this up next week with writing our own persuasive letters. We have also created some lovely art pieces this week. We had a good think/discussion about what the world could look like if we look after it and care for it. Equally we thought about how it would look if we didn't look after it and care for it. We then created a comparative piece thinking about the content of each side of the picture, as well as a title for each and the colours you would see on each side.
