We will be continuing our topic of Explorers and Inspirational People during term 5 but with a greater focus on people who have had a significant influence on the world around them and reflecting on how we can learn from their examples. This will link with our PSHE focus of caring for the planet, including the creation of the school’s new Peace Garden and our RE learning.
In science, and in response to children’s particular interests, in addition to learning about the human body we will also be finding out about volcanoes and have planned some hands-on learning activities to support the learning.
For more information on this term’s learning please refer to the Topic Web and Homework Grid.
Welcome to Foxes Class.
I hope you have had a lovely summer enjoying the glorious weather and are ready to return to school full of energy and enthusiasm. I am really looking forward to the coming year – we have planned some fantastic topics (Woodlands, Festivals, chocolate, explorers and Australia).
We like to learn through fun, engaging and hands on activities. Through our creative curriculum topics we are able to link our learning across the subjects to deepen and enrich the learning taking place. Our trip to Great Dixter House and Gardens on 4th October 2016 will kick start our learning of our first topic, Woodlands, and we are very excited to have this wonderful learning opportunity. Through this topic we will explore number and the number system, stories with repeating patterns and stories with familiar settings and information texts. In Science we will learn to recognise common plants and their basic structure, the four seasons and woodland animals. For an overview of the first topic please see our Topic Web below.
The children have PE, with TeamTheme, every Friday morning. Reading books are changed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Homework is given out every Thursday and collected in the following Tuesday. Each term children have KIRFS (Key Instant Recall Facts) to learn for maths and a homework grid (see below) from which they choose at least one piece of homework to complete each week. Weekly spellings are also set.
The children have already fallen for our class mascot, Foxy Woxy, and both he and they enjoy his weekend visits to children’s houses each week and then sharing his news back in class.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year as Foxes Class and will continue to share our news both here and on our dojo class story.
This term in Foxes Class our topic is Australia. We will be learning all about its geographical features, wildlife and culture. This will include famous landmarks, aboriginal art, animal adaptations and the history of Australian settlement.
We had our Volcano Day on Wednesday. The children really enjoyed learning all about the properties of volcanoes and then in the afternoon creating their own volcano eruptions. It was messy but fun. Please watch the short videos and check out the photos.
Week 2 will be our Science Week and we have lots of exciting investigations planned. We are also looking forward to sports day, the Key Stage 2 production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Pluckley’s Got Talent. It will be a busy but fun-filled term – a fantastic finale to an incredible year.
