On Friday the 14th of July, Squirrel Class children all transformed into pirates for the day!
We began our day with a treasure hunt, which saw the children using a map to find the hidden letters around school, then going back to their groups to unscramble the letters to find the hidden phrase. Every group manage to crack the secret code phrase of 'Shiver Me Timbers'. After break we had a discussion about 3 things we would take to a desert island with us and explained our reasons for choosing these things. We then took part in a variety of team building activities and games. The first saw the children in groups of 5 standing on benches. They had to re-order themselves without talking and without falling into the sea, in a range of different ways, e.g. height, birthdays, alphabetical. Next, in the same groups, the children had to use their bodies to make different pirate related shapes. We then did the human knot activity where the children were all tangled up and had to untangle themselves without letting go of one another. The children were very good at this and worked strategically as a team. Finally we had a go at capture the flag, whereby the two teams had to steal the opposing teams flag, and safely return it to their own safe area.
The children have all behaved and participated extremely well, and have definitely shown how much they deserved to have a day off timetable to end this final, hardworking term!
