Pluckley School gave a very warm welcome to the Pass the Pride Torch Relay today to celebrate the beginning of Ashford schools Olympic festivities. Last term all children in Ashford area schools were invited to enter competitions to design a torch and a medal on an Olympic theme. The torch handed over to us was the overall winner of the Ashford schools competition which was relayed from Egerton Primary School.
It was great to see so many people here to today to join our celebrations. The children from Asia class gave a fantastic display of the Olympic dance and the school also sang the Olympic song. Ben and Alex interviewed the young athletes and the Kent mascot greeted the children. The children today came into school dressed in the colours of their class which represent the Olympic rings, due to the weather we recreated the Olympic flag earlier in the day on the playground.
The torch was then relayed to Smarden school by two Year 6 pupils, Finlay and Luke. A big thank you to Chris Housman who provided the PA system and the PTFA for providing refreshments and of course Georgina Moyce for putting so much into the organisation of this event.
