As part of our topic, we compared houses that we have now to the houses that were part of The Great Fire of London. We looked at their similarities and differences and what impact the fire had on how they re-built houses after. We came up with ideas such as:
> Not building out of wood and using bricks instead
> Building the houses further away from each other
> Making the streets and roads wider
> Not using pitch to waterproof the houses
> Not using thatch as roofing
We then planned a design for our replica houses. Then the children had to used cardboard boxes to make their houses, but they had to choose the materials and methods to make them by themselves. Once the houses are all made, finished and photographed - we will recreate our own mini fire of London on the playground, to show just how quickly the fire devastated the city.
